Man, the imaginative predator, has evolved into the fiercest and most cunning of
all the Earth’s predators. The combination of the old animal traits with imagination not
only created the great positive capabilities of mankind it also created great negative
capabilities. It is the old animal humanoid traits combined with tremendous power of
imagination that has increased the potency of these traits a thousandfold.
It created the
devil in mankind. “Devil” is simply the name given to represent the basic animal traits
such as domination, territorial, sexual, predatory, anger, etc., that mankind inherited from
his ancestors, when they are coupled with imagination. These traits were not evil
originally but when coupled with an imagination they had the potential to become very
evil.
They created powerful mental forces that can reach deep into peoples’ psyche and
cause the myriad of reactions we know as human emotion. Storytellers can exert great
influence over mankind’s emotions.
The devil exists only in the Mind of Mankind, it exists no where else on Earth. It
exists in the mind of every person on Earth. It is the dark side of human imagination.
It has given people the power to do tremendous harm to; each other, the environment and other animals. (It has no power over our Creator whatsoever.) Since animals have very limited imagination, only enough for
their survival, so too their devil is also extremely limited (if they have one at all). The
potential power of the devil seems to be proportional to the power of a person’s
imagination. Fortunately most people can keep their devil suppressed because of the moral
codes, our family and societies impose upon us and religions teach us and also our
inherent desire to live at peace with our neighbors. Its potential for doing evil, however, is
always there.
The imaginative power of people can be focused in a negative direction just as well
as a positive direction, it works both ways equally well. Most people can probably, keep
their negative imagination bottled up, but it is best to quell these evil ideas quickly, before
they can take hold. Our prisons are full of people who have focused their imagination in
the wrong direction. Some of these people have become real monsters. They are not all in
prison, many live among us.. You cannot tell a monster by just looking at them, they are
not like the monsters we see in the movies, they look like perfectly normal people, our
fellow workers, friends, neighbors, family, etc..
These people let their imagination lead them down the wrong path, many times inspired by evil storytellers. When they act out their evil fantasies in some way; murdering, torturing, pillaging, etc. their devil has taken
over and they have become the monsters that live among us. Throughout the history of
mankind our monsters have caused tremendous misery to peace loving people and it looks
they will continue unabated. It is part of our make up. When a storyteller, a group of
people or even a whole society condones or even promotes evil behavior they are
responsible for the evil that results from it.
Evil is a very complex subject. It has a vast scope of subtleties that range from
hurtful gossip, to prejudice, to domination, to torture and mayhem, etc.. Just as beauty lies
in the eyes of the beholder so too evil, in some cases, lies in the eyes of the beholder.
Anti-abortionists claim abortion is evil, while pro-choice advocates claim it is the
woman’s right to choose. People fighting for a cause usually think their cause is good and
just, while the other side is evil and visa versa. The people of some societies have
suppressed their knowledge of fairness so much and for so long they do not even know
they are acting in an evil way.
Many of our noble forefathers who founded this great country of ours were slave owners who were brought up in that environment and embraced it wholeheartedly. It had been an accepted part of society since the dawn of mankind. Our
finest young men finally fought a terrible war to stop the spread of slavery. Today it is
considered a very evil practice and outlawed nearly everywhere in the world.
Mankind with its versatile communicating capabilities plus imagination have
created our storytellers. These storytellers can exert tremendous influence over our
emotions, thinking and actions. They have the ability to reach right inside people’s minds
and create havoc with their emotions. When they incite hatred or anger, etc. they are using
one of the major tools of our “devil”. It is up to these storytellers, whether they are family
members, friends, teachers, tribal leaders, moviemakers, journalists or whatever, to direct
peoples’ mental energy in a positive direction. A child's first storytellers, its parents,
should began instilling positive intellectual and moral values in their children at a very
early age. I cannot emphasize this point too much.
Our devil has no power whatsoever to break any of the natural laws of the
Universe nor offend God in any way. We are too insignificant and unimportant in the
scheme of things to even imagine we would have this power. Mankind is nothing more
then a microscopic bit of matter in the vast universe and yet, our Creator does maintain
intimate contact and dominion over each one of us. Through our imagination, he has
given us the special power to realize that he exists and that we can ask (no harm in asking)
for his guidance and protection throughout our lifetime. It is a powerful gift that we should
constantly use. Remember, his power has no limit.
Although our devil has no power over the natural laws of our Creator, it does
wreak havoc with the emotions of people, its laws and moral codes. One does not have to
look far to see the devil at work today. Its something mankind will just have to live with
and try to suppress the best it can. By focusing peoples' imagination in a positive direction
rather then a negative direction our storytellers can go a long way in making our world a
better place in which to live.
Mankind needs all the help it can get to keep it headed in the
right direction. It is up to our storyteller’s, society and families to help suppress our devil
and keep us headed right. Asking for guidance from our Creator wouldn’t hurt either.
The “imaginative beings” who evolved on other planets but did not inherit these
negative traits may have created much more peaceful, gentle civilizations. We are stuck
with the turmoil that our “devil” creates. It is just another challenge our Creator has
imposed upon us.
